Painted live at the Buttermilk Mountain Lodge during Challenge Aspen’s annual fundraising event, the Denim & Diamonds Gala, this work depicts the infamous “Buttermilk Mountain Moose”, who, despite earning his notoriety by forcing ski patrol to work quickly to shut down whichever ski run he decides to visit that day, has gained a special place in the hearts of the people of Aspen. Leah began skiing with Challenge Aspen, who offers adaptive skiing at the four mountains of Aspen Skiing Company, after a skiing accident left Leah paralyzed from the neck down in 1999, at the young age of 23. Skiing provides Leah with a sense of freedom, which she hopes to share with other people who are living with disabilities.
